Update for November 21, 2019

The Sleep Institute of Spokane will remain open and will continue to service the region as the leader in sleep medicine.  If you are being seen for a sleep condition, please contact our office to schedule an appointment.

Dr Howard and Dr Elmer will continue to see established patients along with new sleep medicine patients.

However, it is with heavy hearts that we send this letter to our patients. Due to unforeseen circumstance and the changes in health care we are no longer able to sustain our clinical practice for pulmonary conditions. This letter represents your 30 day notice of our closing. As of November 22, 2019 Spokane Respiratory will no longer be able to provide you with pulmonary care that you have known for the last 30 years.  Dr Howard and Dr Elmer will still be able to see you for any sleep related questions.

Many of you have asked about how to obtain records. After careful consideration we have decided to have a third party vendor be the custodians of your medical records going forward. The transition of over 15,000 records will take a few weeks. Once this process is complete we will place a link on this website on how to obtain your records.

Over the course of the next few days to weeks we will continue to update our website as to where your physician will be practicing in the future should you choose to continue to get care from them.

If your physician takes a position locally you will be made aware at that time where they are working. Until then we have listed some resources for you during this transition:

Spokane Respiratory is the largest Pulmonary, Sleep and Critical Care group in the Inland Northwest.  Our physicians are board certified, specializing in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and/or Sleep Disorders Medicine.  We work closely with the Sleep Institute of Spokane, which has been providing exceptional sleep care to patients with sleep disorders for decades.

Our mission statement is Patient Care First and we live this every day. To us, there is nothing more sacred than the trust of our patients.  Through this relationship, we are able to reach our goal of providing the highest quality care to Spokane and the surrounding area. We've been the premier providers of pulmonary and sleep care in Eastern Washington for over 30 years and are proud to take care of our neighbors.

Pulmonary Clinic

Breathing is life's most basic function and something most of us take for granted.  When the simple act of breathing becomes a struggle, it can be scary and overwhelming. Our caring group of physicians and staff are here to help you breathe easier.

We treat a variety of common conditions such as shortness of breath, respiratory infection and asthma. We are also experts in diagnosis and treatment of lung nodules, lung cancer and advanced airway disease.

Sleep Clinic

Do you have trouble sleeping?  Lack of sleep or poor sleep can affect more than performance.  It can also lead to serious health issues.  Fortunately, we specialize in treating sleep disorders and will work to help you achieve a restful night's sleep.

We diagnose and treat sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome or other conditions that make a good night's sleep impossible. Our sleep lab is accredited through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and offers comprehensive sleep studies in a comfortable environment.
